Food Review: Mio Cucina in Los Baños

Cuisine Type: Filipino
Budget: 200-400 pesos per person
Location: Lopez Avenue, Los Baños, Laguna

My wife and I happened to dine in at one of the finest restaurants in Los Banos. Mio Cucina is a Filipino Cuisine located near University of the Philippines at Los Baños.

When we entered the restaurant I had this feeling that we will just end up ordering a cup of coffee since the place is grandiose, with classy paintings, table settings and music. However, with the scrumptious dishes in the menu, we thought we’ll be having a heavy meal. The friendly waiter took us to our table and handed us the menu. There are all sorts of Filipino dishes such as Bistek Tagalog, Kaldereta, Lechon Kawali, etc. What caught my attention is their pasta — they serve seafood pasta, putanesca, and other native ingredients. Their dessert includes Blueberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Rhum Cake, Strawberry Shortcake, and other native deli.

My wife and I decided to try their Lechon Kawali, Adobo Rice and Kalamansi Juice. The dish took time to be served so they served us bonete, a kind of bread from Liliw Laguna and butter.

We took several pictures while waiting.

Their Lechon Kawali is served with coconut vinegar.

Their Lechon Kawali is so good we barely talked while eating. It is very crispy but does not bring much guilt.  The Adobo Rice is so tasty you can eat it on its own. We had four servings of rice. The fresh Kalamansi Juice was a perfect match since it is concentrated and cancels out the oiliness of the dish.

We enjoyed taking pictures after eating. The place may be small (it can accommodate only up to 25 persons) but the ambiance is so relaxing. We got to have a casual talk with its owner, Lorna Sarabia, after paying the bill.

All in all, Mio Cucina is worth the visit. People say that the resto’s specialty is Bistek Tagalog and I just can’t want to go back and check it out. Mio Cucina was featured in the April 26, 2009 issue of Inquirer (see here).

I give it a perfect rating for its food, ambiance and friendly crew.
